Illinois Historic Structures Survey card files, 1971-1975.

From 1971-1975, all towns and cities in Illinois with a population greater than 500 were surveyed. Surveyors photographed and located all buildings of architectural interest built prior to World War II. Data on more than 60,000 sites was collected, and was evaluated by Paul Sprague, director of the survey. The cards are arranged under three main geographical divisions, with subdivisions for those potentially significant enough to be included in the National Register; those probably not of sufficient quality to be listed alone, but likely to qualify as contributing structures in a National Register Historic District; and those of marginal architectural interest or significance.
